Head to Cairo — a 3½-hour drive across the desert.
Your destination is the newly opened Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), set to become the largest archaeological museum in the world. Its 2025 opening marked the unveiling of 12 never-before-seen main galleries showcasing 15,000 artifacts, with more to come.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore these 12 galleries. Each is meticulously designed to transport visitors through Egypt's vast timeline. From the stone tools and pottery of the earliest human settlements along the Nile to the artifacts of the Greco-Roman era, the exhibits highlight the evolution of one of the world's most remarkable civilizations.
Once fully operational, the Grand Egyptian Museum will house more than 100,000 artifacts, including a comprehensive display of the treasures of King Tutankhamun — a collection that will be shown in its entirety for the first time.
End your visit with a stroll through GEM's retail area, which boasts an array of shopping and food outlets. Your lunch today is served at one of the premier restaurants.
Notes:
This is a "preview visit" to the Grand Egyptian Museum, allowing you to experience parts of the museum as they are opened during the soft-opening period. The wider museum opens at a later date. Modest attire is recommended; knees, shoulders, and midriffs must be covered. Tight-fitting, transparent, or translucent clothing is not advisable. Please err on the side of conservatism with your attire.
