Depart the pier and head to the north coast of the Bay of Islands on a 45-minute scenic journey to the quaint seaside community of Cox's Cove. Your guide enlightens and entertains you along the way with tales of Newfoundland and Labrador and this unique area.
En route to Cox’s Cove, in the distance you will see two of the four protrusions of the earth's mantle through the crust. This region is often referred to as "the Galapagos of plate tectonics" and of course a brief stop is made enroute to view and explain the plate tectonics.
Pause outside a fish-processing plant for some interpretive discussion on fish harvesting, processing, and the infamous 1992 cod moratorium.
Step inside an indoor venue where you will be greeted by friendly locals. You will be treated to a musical performance and square dance showcasing the province of Newfoundland and a sampling of regional culinary delicacies.
Once the main events of the hall are finished, there will be some spare time to chat with locals, enjoy more tea/coffee, go outside for a stroll of the area or view the landscape outside of the hall. Board the coach to head back to your ship in the port of Corner Brook. Enjoy further stories and interpretation along the way.
Notes: Please note: Liquor and beer will be available for purchase at the hall. This is at the expense of the guest. Guests are advised to bring cash. Debit/credit will not be accepted. There will be a limited amount of locally crafted goods available for purchase. Cash only. Dress in seasonally appropriate clothing. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
