Jamestown Settlement is synonymous with the birth of the United States of America. As the first permanent English colony in the New World, it is a living piece of history.
Cross the waterway known as the Hampton Roads — one of the world's largest natural harbors — on a one-hour panoramic drive.
At the Jamestown Settlement, take a one-hour guided tour of the Visitor Center and the museum that chronicles the early beginnings of England's first permanent colony in the New World. Costumed historical interpreters describe and demonstrate daily life in the early 17th century. Stroll among the impressive exhibits, which include portraits, documents, furnishings, toys, ceremonial and decorative objects, tools, weapons and archaeological artifacts. Outside, the living history museum recreates a Powhatan Indian village and Fort James. Watch woodworking, blacksmithing and cooking demonstrations. Follow the path to the pier and see replicas of the three ships that brought the first colonists to Virginia in 1607.
Return to the ship at the pier in Norfolk in time for dinner, completing a fascinating day in Virginia.
Notes:
Lunch is not included. You will have time to purchase lunch at your own expense during the tour. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
