Take this opportunity to see more of beautiful Wellington Harbour -- one of the finest natural harbors in the world. This spectacular drive takes you all the way around to Pencarrow Station at the easternmost point.
Depart Wellington and follow the coastline to Petone. This foreshore saw the historic landing of the first settlers in Wellington. Your scenic coastal drive passes through many quiet bays to reach the popular beach at Days Bay. A short distance further on is the quaint village of Eastbourne.
Proceeding along the coast on Wellington's eastern shoreline, you will come to Pencarrow Station -- one of the earliest-settled sheep and cattle farms in the Wellington area. Set on just 2,000 acres, it is home to Wellington's only hidden lakes, as well as the oldest lighthouse in New Zealand and many historic Maori sites. You'll hear the stories of the hidden shipwrecks that are dotted along the coastline.
Towards the end of the peninsula, enjoy expansive views (weather permitting) over Cook Strait to the South Island from a local lodge.
