Enjoy an in-depth introduction to Sihanoukville. Named after King Norodom Sihanouk, this port town provides key trading access to an otherwise land-locked nation.
You will visit the splendid Intra Ngean Pagoda -- the city's most prominent religious site. Indra Ngean takes pride of place overlooking the town and seascape beyond. Here, you will receive a monk's blessing in a traditional ceremony where the monks sprinkle water and flowers over you while chanting prayers. They believe this traditional Khmer blessing ceremony cleanses bad spirits from the past and brings good luck for the coming year.
At a Public School, interact with the children, who are as fascinated by you as you are by them.
Renewed, relaxed, and sporting a mantle of good luck, continue to Psar Leu -- the main market in Sihanoukville. This is an unfiltered, authentic experience in a real, working Khmer market -- a chance to see local life and trade firsthand. You may wish to wander among the stalls and perhaps haggle for a traditional krama -- the colorful headscarf commonly worn by all Khmers.
Pause at one of the most beautiful beaches in Sihanoukville -- Otres II Beach for lunch at an upscale boutique restaurant. This is a beautiful and tranquil place to relax and enjoy the fresh sea air.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen, light clothing to act as a full cover-up for further protection from the sun, and a hat.
