Departing from Brest, you will head straight to the bustling fishing port of Concarneau. With all the charm of a walled town, Concarneau is enclosed in imposing granite ramparts, and its popular resort facilities attract many visitors. It is France's third-largest fishing port for tuna and supports two fish canneries and a colorful fish market.
You will drive through the city to get acquainted. Walk through the Old Town -- a maze of narrow alleys that cover the islet, which is linked to the mainland by two small bridges. See the massive ramparts built in the 14th and 17th centuries and their associated fortified buildings.
Enjoy lunch at a restaurant in Concarneau; then, drive to Pont Aven in a very pleasant setting. The River Aven opens out into a tidal estuary and used to serve numerous mills, but only one remains in operation today. This picturesque town was a favorite resort for painters, and the Pont-Aven School, headed by Paul Gauguin, was formed in 1888. The city is also famous for its butter cookies -- Galettes de Pont-Aven.
Enjoy some free time to explore this traditional town before rejoining your guide and motorcoach for the drive back to Brest.
