Skadar Lake is among the few freshwater swamps still flourishing in the Mediterranean. It is also the largest lake in the Balkans.
This tour will introduce you to Skadar Lake and Montenegro's great natural and historical attractions. Visit the last remaining habitat of pelicans and the largest bird reserve in Europe. It is set within Skadar National Park and boasts 264 bird species, 48 fish species, and 30 submarine springs. Interestingly, these springs are called oka (eyes) by the locals. Numerous islands, fish colonies and a complex of monasteries cap off the region's attractions.
Take in the many sights as you cruise on the lake, viewing the islands, bays and picturesque surroundings.
Fish from the lake is served for lunch at a nearby local restaurant. There's time afterward for sunbathing and swimming (weather permitting).
Notes:
Road work is being carried out between Kotor and Budva which may cause delays.Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen, light clothing to act as a full cover-up for further protection from the sun, and a hat. Swim at your own risk. Swimming takes place from the boat, not from a beach. Terrain includes three steps (with handrail) to get on and off the boat. Travel time to Skadar Lake is approximately 90 minutes each way. Although the lake is also well known for its many bird species, sightings are unlikely in the late morning and afternoon hours, especially during the hot summer months.
