This outing offers world-class wildlife viewing in the company of a naturalist guide. You will see black and brown bears in their natural habitat as they feed on abundant wild salmon.
Only a limited number of people per day are allowed to visit Anan Creek — a special place where eagles soar and bears come out to feast on the roving buffet of salmon swimming upstream to spawn. North America's largest land carnivore and thousands of returning salmon put on a natural spectacle that is not to be missed.
Your day begins with a scenic trip by covered, heated jet boat to the Observatory trailhead. Your guide leads you on a walk through primordial rainforest and around a lagoon to the waterfalls of Anan Creek. A front-row position awaits you to observe bears catching wild salmon, teaching their young to hunt and interacting in the complex social hierarchy of beardom. The presence of eagles is a bonus as these mighty birds of prey wheel overhead.
Keep an eye out on the trail for other forest animals attracted to this rich food source.
Notes: Minimum age is 9 years. Although children will enjoy the tour, they must be well-managed by parents/guardians and able and willing to follow the guide's directions fully, including keeping noise to a minimum. Minimum height is 36". Maximum weight is 300 lbs. Bears have an acute sense of smell; do not wear strong scent or bring food of any kind. Pets and service animals are not allowed on tour.
Not advisable for guests with mobility or vision limitations. There are basic outhouse facilities at the trailhead and the observatory platform. Although this tour operates only during the primary season for bear viewing, wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
