What do I need to know about packing medications and prescriptions?

Bring a sufficient supply of your prescription medicine for the duration of your cruise, keep it close at hand in your purse or carry-on bag, and leave medications in their original containers.

How to pack medications and prescriptions

  • Carry-on only for easy access: Keep medication in your purse or carry-on bag rather than in checked luggage

  • Bring enough for the full cruise: Refill prescriptions sufficiently so you have enough for the duration of the cruise

  • Keep medications in original containers: Transport all medication in its original container

  • Plan for limited onboard and port availability: Medication may not be available on board or in some ports

Helpful information to keep with you

  • A written medication list (in case the item becomes lost), including the name of the medication, dosage, and when it needs to be taken

  • Immunization records

  • Prescription for eyeglasses or contacts

If you need a prescription refill during the cruise

  • In an emergency, Holland America will assist in filling prescriptions

  • Additional charges will apply

Prescription medical marijuana and related products

  • Prescription medical marijuana is not allowed on board

  • Possession of marijuana, even with a prescription, is a violation of US law, may violate the laws of countries visited, and may result in referral to law enforcement authorities

  • Prescription Marinol is permitted on board as an alternative to marijuana
