Head toward the charming town of Esparza, known as one of the most picturesque places in Costa Rica's Central Pacific region.
Esparza boasts a beautiful central park and church, both encapsulating the country's hardworking rural communities. At the park, local dancers in colorful dresses welcome you to learn about Costa Rican traditions. You will also have the chance to browse for handmade souvenirs.
Step onto a glass-floor platform for a fantastic view of crocodiles in the famous Tárcoles River.
You'll also witness a semi-industrial demonstration of how chocolate is made, shop for special souvenirs, sample fresh tropical fruits, and enjoy a cup of freshly brewed Costa Rican coffee.
At the Tarcoles Estuary, set out on a relaxing pontoon boat ride through the jungle. The estuary is home to four different species of mangrove. It is teeming with birdlife, including egrets, herons, pelicans, and frigate birds — some of the species most commonly found on the delta. The riverbanks are also inhabited by some of the largest crocodile colonies in the region — a must for nature lovers.
Notes:
Tour sequence may vary. Participants must be able to climb a few steps to board the coach without assistance and access the boat without assistance. The boat has individual cushioned seats. Pontoon boats are covered on top and open on the sides; Restrooms are not available on the boat. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Bring insect repellent. Bring a wet bag for your devices.
