Experience the lifestyle of a Uruguayan gaucho during a visit to the Estancia La Rábida -- a day of relaxation and enjoyment. A scenic drive introduces you to the sights of Montevideo city, including a stop at Independence Square and the Congress Building.
Afterward, travel to Estancia La Rábida, where a traditional Uruguayan family welcomes you into their home. This authentic working ranch is the home to 650 milking cows producing 12,000 liters of milk daily, assisted by state-of-the-art technology and productivity systems. You will be amazed at the perfect blend of rustic simplicity and cultural refinement that is characteristic of La Rábida, along with an authentic glimpse of Uruguayan life.
Marvel at the scenery surrounding the ranch, with fields stretching onto high cliffs overlooking the striking beach coast of Rio de la Plata. Indulge in a traditional asado (barbecue) lunch with wine and soft drinks. As you relax at the ranch, take note of the unusual birdlife.
You will also learn about some of the daily chores that are part of gaucho life, such as milking, mustering, and household tasks.
Notes:
This tour involves moderate walking. Terrain includes some muddy surfaces, as well as a steep walk down to the beach over uneven ground. Participants must be able to climb in and out of a truck or carriage without assistance. Seating at lunch is on straw bales. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water.
