Travel to the Trondenes Peninsula — home to the northernmost medieval stone church in Norway, dating from the late Middle Ages. One of the foremost cultural heritage sites in Norway from this period, the church houses several artifacts and boasts a very beautiful interior.
You'll also visit the Trondenes Historical Center to gain an insight into the history of Northern Norway. View the exhibits and watch a multimedia presentation. Journey through the Bronze Age, Viking times and the medieval era through to World War II and the present day. Step outside to meet the people living at the open-air medieval farm and see for yourself how they lived, dreamed, and worked above the Arctic Circle in the Middle Ages.
The Adolf Gun — the world's largest land-based naval cannon — was built in 1943 by the occupying German troops. Enter the cannon itself and explore the original bunker facilities, now remade into a fascinating exhibition. Gain insight into the gun's history, its construction, and its planned use as part of Hitler's Atlantic Wall. Today, the Adolf Guns at Trondenes are the only ones remaining of their kind.
Notes:
Tour requires a moderate amount of walking. Terrain includes uneven surfaces with 26 steps at the Historical Center and 37 steps at the Adolf Gun. Seventy-five minutes of walking and standing are required at the gun emplacement. There is no wheelchair access to the gun site. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Children under the age of 3 must be secured in a child's car seat on the transportation. These are not available through the tour operator; you must bring your own from home. The Adolf Gun is an active military area; you must bring valid photo ID with you on tour; accepted forms of ID include passport, National ID card with photo, or European driver's license with photo.
