Travel alongside the River Fal to Cornwall's pretty coastline, pausing to take photos of St Michael's Mount. Originally the location of a Benedictine priory, the Mount is the sister house of the famous Mont St Michel in Normandy. It is among Britain's most dramatic and famous sights and has been a church, priory, fortress and private home.
The granite mass of the Cornish Peninsula meets the sea at Land's End — the westernmost point of the mainland of England. Passing through the popular amusement complex here, you'll have time to walk down to the rocky plateau and take in the view from atop the 60-foot-tall granite cliffs. Photograph the famous signpost that points to New York and elsewhere. Browse for souvenirs in Land's End's gift shops.
As you cross the Cornish Peninsula, notice the sharp contrasts between the spectacular cliffs and granite moorlands at Land's End and the softer sub-tropical vegetation of the gardens, the flower-filled lanes and the tranquility of wooded valleys inland.
On the north coast, discover St Ives seaside resort town. Rich Celtic character is evident in St Ives' picturesque streets, cottages and houses, while golden beaches and sparkling seas hint at Mediterranean Europe. Farming, mining and fishing have shaped St Ives since the mid-19th century. Today, with its art galleries, studios and craft shops, St Ives attracts artists (professional and amateur) and visitors.
Notes:
Lunch is not included. You will have time to purchase lunch at your own expense during the tour. Bring local currency or credit cards, as most vendors do not accept US dollars. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, cobblestones, inclines and steps.
