Curated with the History Channel, a site that was integral to the Allied forces in World War II and learn the story of the Mulberry Operation through an immersive museum experience.
Board a motorcoach and head to Arromanches. This modest seaside resort owes its fame to the fantastic Mulberry Operation — the construction of an artificial port that was one of the most extraordinary industrial and maritime achievements of the war. Indeed, it was an integral part of the Allied Landing in Europe in June 1944. See the remains of the port that enabled Allied forces to land in France.
Enjoy a guided visit to the Landing Museum, depicting with models and films the whole landing operation.
You will have time to purchase lunch (at your own expense).
A drive to Colleville Saint Laurent brings you to the American Cemetery. Here, more than 9,000 marble crosses stand aligned at an impressive site overlooking Omaha Beach. A memorial, inscribed with a map of the operation and preceded by a reflecting pool, stands in the central alley, surrounded by trees. It is a somber place of gratitude and remembrance.
Return to Cherbourg and the ship.
Notes:
Lunch is not included. You will have time to purchase lunch at your own expense during the tour. Travel time to Arromanches is approximately two hours each way.
Shore excursions and programming are not sponsored or administered by The History Channel ™ and are offered and administered exclusively by Holland America.
