Begin your day with ease with a pick-up for you and your luggage directly from the Apollo Hotel in Amsterdam. It's a transfer to the ship with a difference, as you will visit the villages of Zaanse Schans and Edam en route.
Just a short distance from Amsterdam lies the village of Zaanse Schans, located on the banks of the River Zaan. The scenery packed into this tiny village-like park is quite remarkable. The windmills spaced along the river are quintessentially and beautifully Dutch -- the stuff of postcards. Enjoy a close-up exterior view of how a windmill works.
You'll also learn about the traditional Dutch craft of clog making and how these iconic wooden shoes were made in the past. Take advantage of some free time to snap some photos and purchase souvenirs.
Continue to the exquisite village of Edam, famous for its cheese of the same name. Stroll through the flat, narrow streets of this utterly charming village to the Bell Tower and revel in the history of some of the houses here, which date back to the 1600s.
Relax on the journey back to Amsterdam, ending with a very convenient drop-off at your cruise ship at the pier in Amsterdam.
Notes:
This tour is available only to guests whose cruise begins in Amsterdam. The pick-up location for all participants is the Apollo Hotel in Amsterdam located at Apollolaan 2, 1077 BA Amsterdam. Do not enter the hotel lobby; a representative with a Holland America sign will be stationed curbside to assist with guest registration and luggage check. The Apollo Hotel in Amsterdam is the only pick-up point for this tour; there are no additional pick-up points. If you are staying elsewhere, you are responsible for making your own way to the hotel with your luggage, at your own expense. All participants must be at the meeting point at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled tour departure time, as the coach will leave on time. Tour must be booked a minimum of four calendar days prior to your cruise embarkation date.
