Meet your professional guide and set off to visit the ruined city of ancient Ephesus, founded by the Hittites. Today, this is one of the most magnificent and best-preserved archaeological sites in the world.
See the glorious Celsus Library façade, restored and reconstructed in the 1970s, the Temple of Hadrian and the Great Theatre with a seating capacity of 25,000 people. Your guide will share some little-known details about the life and times of the ancient city.
Visit the Ephesus Archaeological Museum. This small museum in Selcuk boasts an incredible collection of Hellenistic and Roman statues, carved reliefs and artifacts unearthed from the ruins of Ephesus. The famous statue of Artemis (goddess of fertility) is housed here — don't miss it.
Stop for refreshments and an optional carpet demonstration at a local weaving village. Watch the skilled artisans spin and dye yarn and weave carpets.
Return directly to the ship or stay in Kusadasi. Time permitting, guests wishing to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so but must make their own way back to the ship.
Notes:
Tour requires extensive walking. Terrain includes uneven and cobblestone surfaces, inclines, and many steps. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Please realistically assess your physical fitness and ability prior to booking. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Expect dense crowding and congestion at each site. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Bring insect repellent in July and August. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.
