Here's a wonderful, easy way to get acquainted with the coral gardens and tropical fish of Rangiroa. Enjoy this visual excursion with an up-close look at French Polynesia's busy underwater scene. Board a glass-bottom boat and float slowly over the huge coral heads that are clustered in shallow areas inside the Tiputa Channel. Peer through the large windows that open onto a colorful world full of parrot-, butterfly-, and surgeonfish. It is likely that you will also encounter black-tipped sharks and perhaps see the majestic Napoleon fish. A cover provides protection from the sun and helps with glare, so you are sure to take home great photos.
Your Polynesian boat crew will attract the fish right under the glass panels, allowing for easy viewing and photography.
Notes:
Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. Sailing on board a boat requires vigilance; guests must be physically and mentally alert to the boating environment and fit enough to negotiate steps and the vessel layout. Limited tourism infrastructure is part of the charm here; you are trading breadth of guide experience for authentic interaction. Please bring your spirit of adventure and bear with any language difficulties or operational surprises that may crop up. Mobility devices (wheelchairs, walkers, scooters, etc) cannot be accommodated on the transportation; these must remain on the pier at ship's security.
