Set out with a small group for a more personalized experience. Your journey begins at the Grand Socco—the lively heart of Tangier. While fewer vendors gather here than in years past, it remains a vibrant hub filled with street musicians, local markets, handicraft stalls, and spices in every shade imaginable. Its lively rhythm makes it the perfect introduction to the city.
From here, you’ll continue to a charming local restaurant, where a skilled chef will guide you through the art of Moroccan tea preparation. Esteemed around the world, mint tea involves an elegant, step-by-step ritual that delights both the eyes and the palate.
Once you’ve perfected your technique, roll up your sleeves and take part in preparing traditional Moroccan bread dough. Then experience a true slice of local life as you bring your dough to a neighborhood wood-fired oven (ferran or frans), where residents gather while their bread and pastries bake. These communal ovens, once found in every neighborhood, are still used today in the old medinas. With many loaves baked at once, each is marked with a stamp to ensure it finds its way back to its owner.
When your bread is ready, sit back and enjoy it with locally made condiments—and, of course, your freshly prepared mint tea.
Notes:
Modest attire is required; knees, shoulders, and midriffs must be covered. Tight-fitting, transparent, or translucent clothing is not permitted. Please avoid white clothing, as it may not provide sufficient coverage. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. The experience includes navigating two flights of stairs (with handrails) to access the tea-making venue.
