Transfer to Timaru and meet your guide. Follow the Caroline Bay memorial walkway and view display panels honoring New Zealand's fallen heroes. Continue along the promenade and boardwalk toward the beach lookout, where markers note the historical levels of the ocean at high tide.
Take the cliff path to the Benvenue Cliffs to enjoy the view of Caroline Bay and learn about Timaru's worst shipwreck.
Seedling New Zealand native tree plantings, a bird aviary, and wind sculptures line the summer carnival grounds that you will pass on the climb to Bay Hill. Enjoy a morning snack here with lovely views of the ocean and mountains from this elevated site.
A visit to the Trevor Griffiths Rose Garden showcases a sensational collection of more than a thousand of the world's finest roses. The garden lies at the foot of the Timaru Piazza, and you can take the steps or elevator to the top for a panoramic view.
Your walk continues along the main street above, note Timaru's Victorian/Edwardian Architecture along the way to the Victorian-era Landing Services Building, the last of its type in the Southern Hemisphere. This low-scale stone beauty is an architectural tribute to the warehousing and processing capacity of Timaru's turn-of-the-20th-century port. Indeed, the prosperity of wool farmers relied on the functions of this building as they strove to bring their product to the international marketplace.
Take the shuttle back to the pier. Guests wishing to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so, but must make their own way back to the ship.
