Visit a tranquil traditional garden known for its understated beauty and refined composition. Although modest in size, the Senda Residence Garden exemplifies the subtle elegance of Japanese outdoor design, incorporating carefully placed stones, greenery, and seasonal elements. The serene atmosphere reflects Kanazawa's distinctive aesthetic sensibility, emphasizing balance, restraint, and an appreciation for nature throughout the year.
Continue to the Nagamachi District, once home to many of Kanazawa's Samurai. Kaga was unlike other Japanese fiefdoms because its Samurai lived in Kanazawa town. The remains of the samurai houses can be seen today, along with a few surviving residences, earthen boundary walls, narrow lanes and canals.
The Ishikawa Prefecture History Museum presents local history from ancient times through the modern era using clear, engaging, and well-organized exhibits. Displays highlight the development of regional culture, daily life, craftsmanship, and historical events that shaped the area. Your visit provides a broader context and a deeper understanding of the region's cultural and historical background.
Notes:
Tour requires walking approximately 700 yards from the coach parking area to the residence. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, gravel, grass, and many steps. You must remove your shoes at one or more location(s). Wear comfortable walking shoes. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair. Mobility devices (wheelchairs, walkers, scooters, etc) cannot be accommodated on the transportation. Expect crowding at the residence. Tour sequence may vary. Bring local currency or credit cards, as most vendors do not accept US dollars.
