Known locally as geigi, Niigata's geisha continue to practice the refined arts of music, dance, and hospitality passed down through generations.
Upon arrival, enjoy a guided walk through the atmospheric streets of Furumachi, where traditional teahouses and former geigi residences offer a glimpse into the district's storied past. Continue to the renowned Niigata Saito Villa, an elegant early twentieth-century residence set amidst beautifully landscaped grounds. Built atop coastal sand dunes, the garden was designed to evoke the beauty of a mountain landscape, featuring tranquil ponds, cascading waterfalls, and graceful pine groves. Enjoy the villa's serene surroundings with a cup of traditional green tea, then savor a Japanese-style lunch at a local restaurant.
The highlight of your day awaits as you enter the world of the geigi. Watch an enchanting performance featuring graceful dance, traditional songs, and music played on the shamisen, a three-stringed Japanese instrument.
