A scenic drive brings you to Yahiko Shrine, one of the region's most revered spiritual landmarks. Nestled at the foot of sacred Mount Yahiko, the shrine is dedicated to Amanokaguyama-no-Mikoto, a deity credited with teaching the local people fishing, rice cultivation, salt production, and other essential skills. The current shrine buildings, rebuilt in 1916 under the direction of renowned architect Dr. Chuta Ito, showcase traditional Japanese design and craftsmanship. In recognition of their cultural significance, 25 structures within the shrine complex were designated National Tangible Cultural Properties in 1998.
Continue to the seaside community of Teradomari, often referred to as "Niigata's Kitchen." Along the waterfront, rows of seafood vendors display the day's fresh catch, creating a lively atmosphere filled with the aromas of grilled seafood and local specialties. Enjoy free time to explore the bustling market street, browse the shops, and purchase lunch (at your own expense) from one of the many popular eateries favored by both locals and visitors.
This afternoon, travel along the scenic Yahiko Skyline, a picturesque mountain road renowned for its spectacular vistas. Stretching 13.7 kilometers through the mountains, the route offers sweeping views of the fertile Niigata Plain on one side and the sparkling Sea of Japan on the other.
Upon reaching the summit of Mount Yahiko, ascend the distinctive Panorama Tower, a rotating observation tower that gradually rises to reveal breathtaking 360-degree views. On clear days, you may spot Sado Island on the horizon while taking in the stunning landscapes that stretch in every direction.
After enjoying the magnificent scenery, relax on the drive back to the ship.
