This excursion offers a unique opportunity to explore some of Korea’s most significant historical and cultural landmarks, combining a visit to the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) with an introduction to the history of the Korean War. Your journey begins with a comfortable 90-minute drive from the pier in Incheon to the Paju DMZ area.
After departing the ship, travel to the DMZ, the heavily fortified border that separates North and South Korea. Established in 1953 following the Korean War Armistice Agreement, the DMZ stretches approximately 250 kilometers across the Korean Peninsula and serves as one of the most closely guarded borders in the world. During the visit, explore the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel, a secret underground passage discovered in 1978 that was allegedly constructed by North Korea. Guests will also visit Dora Observatory, which offers views across the border into North Korea and provides insight into the history and ongoing division of the peninsula.
Following the DMZ visit, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Continue to the Incheon Landing Operation Memorial Hall. The memorial commemorates General Douglas MacArthur’s successful Incheon Landing on September 15, 1950, a pivotal military operation during the Korean War that helped change the course of the conflict. The museum features exhibits, historical artifacts, photographs, and displays that illustrate the planning and execution of the operation and its significance in modern Korean history.
After the visit, relax on the return journey to the port and rejoin your ship with a deeper understanding of Korea’s history, resilience, and continuing journey toward peace.
Notes:
All guests must carry their passport on the day of the tour. A manifest including each guest's full name, gender, and date of birth must be submitted in advance so please insure booking details are correct. Photography is not permitted within the DMZ area. This tour is not recommended for people who suffer from claustrophobia. The 3rd Tunnel involves walking through a long, narrow underground tunnel with steep inclines and low ceilings in some areas. Guests should be prepared for strenuous physical exertion. Tour does not operate on Mondays.
