Experience old and new on a leisurely tour of Xiamen. Travel from old Xiamen to new by coach and visit Bailuzhou Park. The park is situated on an island in the city’s Yundang Lake, and is known as the 'green lung' of the city due to its vast vegetated areas.
Take a short walk with your guide to the symbol of Xiamen—the egret goddess statue; then, enjoy some time at leisure to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of the park.
Continue by coach to visit one of the most revered and famous Buddhist temples in southern China. South Putuo Temple is an active temple with more than 200 monks and was first built more than 1,000 years ago during the Tang Dynasty.
Visit the Heavenly King Hall, home to the statue of a huge laughing Buddha representing the Buddha of the future and flanked by ferocious statues of the four heavenly kings. The temple has also served as a home and a training center for men and women seeking the enlightened path since 1924. Re-board the coach for a panoramic drive along the Island ring road before returning to the ship.
Notes:
There are approximately 30 steps per level to reach each of the three levels of the South Putuo Temple. The site is not wheelchair accessible. There is approximately 20 minutes of guided walking on this excursion; the remainder is at your leisure. Bring local currency for purchases. Wear casual clothing and comfortable shoes.
