Take a guided walk through the famous Kairakuen Garden, created by the Mito clan in 1842. The garden is one of Japan's most celebrated, and is famous for its beautiful plum blossoms.
You'll also visit the Kiuchi Brewery. Originally a sake brewery, it is now known for another product -- 'Nest beer'. This craft beer was first made in 1996, and has since won many international awards. Learn about traditional sake and sample some Nest beer.
Enjoy a set-menu lunch at the brewery with some free time to browse in the adjoining gift shop.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. There is a 10-minute walk from the bus parking lot to the Kairakuen Garden. Bring local currency, as many vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars. The lunch menu is a Japanese set menu; no substitutions can be made (not suitable for vegetarian or vegan guests). One glass of beer is included with lunch. Traffic can be unpredictable. The driver will do his/her best to keep moving safely. Your patience is greatly appreciated. Delays occasionally extend tour duration. Blooms in Kairakuen Garden is depending on seasons. Unfamiliar accents can be challenging; feel free to ask your guide to repeat or elaborate on information, and to speak more slowly so you can fully comprehend and converse.
