Departing from Quepos, you will take the route to Carara National Park — a low mountainous area of about a thousand acres and an absolute must-see for nature lovers. This is a transitional climate zone, going from the dry north to the very humid mid-Pacific coast.
Your experience of the park is interactive, as you follow the main trail on foot. It's designed to offer an easy and interesting introduction to the forest. A wide range of audiovisual and other resources use advanced technology to facilitate ease of access for those with mobility limitations. Walk into the forest to encounter these facilitative features, such as animal sculptures, haptic maps and Braille signs, as well as rest areas and park information booths.
More than 110 species of bird are found in the National Park, including anhinga, surgeon ducks, pied-billed grebes, great blue and tri-color herons and the boat-billed herons. Endangered species include scarlet macaws, yellow-billed cotingas, laughing falcons, and other birds, as well as several money species, other mammals and impressive reptiles and amphibians.
You will continue to the Guacalillo Estuary for a relaxing pontoon boat trip through the jungle. This estuary shelters four different mangrove species, as well as egrets, herons, pelicans and frigate birds. The riverbanks are also home to some of the largest crocodiles colonies in the region.
After this beautiful experience, enjoy a delicious Costa Rican-style buffet lunch at the main restaurant.
