Discover the magic of the festive season in the beautifully preserved medieval town of Lüneburg, known for its red-brick Gothic architecture.
Your journey begins with a scenic drive to Lüneburg, once a wealthy Hanseatic salt-trading town. A leisurely walk through the historic Old Town has you wandering along cobblestone streets lined with beautifully decorated gabled houses. Your guide shares stories of Lüneburg's prosperous past.
Stroll through the picturesque Am Sande, one of the town's most iconic squares, where rows of impressive merchant houses create a perfect medieval backdrop. Continue to the historic Lüneburg Town Hall, one of the most remarkable in northern Germany, showcasing a blend of architectural styles.
During the Advent season, the town transforms into a festive wonderland with the enchanting Lüneburg Christmas Market. Set against historic façades and softly glowing lights, the market offers handcrafted gifts, seasonal treats, and a warm, intimate atmosphere that feels far removed from larger city crowds.
Take time to explore the market at your own pace. Feel free to try local specialties such as roasted almonds, gingerbread, or a cup of traditional mulled wine (at your own expense). Your guide will gladly share insider tips on what to taste and where to browse.
You may also pass by the impressive St John's Church, dominating the skyline and adding to the town's medieval charm, as you return to Hamburg.
