Take the steep path up to some 400 feet above sea level to visit the remains of past civilizations at the Acropolis of Lindos. Admire the 4th-century BC Doric Temple of Athena Lindia, a double-winged portico, a Byzantine church, and the fortifications of the Knights of St John constructed in the 14th century.
You will see the Acropolis ruins in a most extraordinary fashion, with the aid of Augmented Reality Software (AR). Augmented Reality combines the camera's content with a virtual one. In other words, it is a combination of real-time video and numerous virtual elements. AR essentially enables you to simply point the tablet's camera at various locations of the site and view them in their original form, as they once stood thousands of years ago. It is an amazing way to view the site as both the ruins of today and the complete, whole buildings of yesteryear.
From the Acropolis, marvel at the breathtaking views covering the great expanse of the Aegean Sea and St Paul's Bay, where the Apostle anchored during his historic voyage to Ephesus.
As you descend back to the village via steep and narrow streets, you'll pass beautiful whitewashed, terraced houses, built for the rich ship owners or sea captains in the 16th and 17th centuries.
Notes:
Tour requires considerable walking. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, cobblestones, inclines, gravel, grass, and more than 250 steps. Please realistically assess your physical fitness and ability prior to booking, as the walk is very steep and slippery. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations.
