Calling all railroad buffs and those interested in Hawaii's agriculture.
Board a narrow-gauge train for a 40-minute ride through the 105-acre Agriculture & Animal Plantation. Ride in the King Kalakaua-style pure mahogany-wood passenger railcars. From the train, you will have splendid views of orchards that grow more exotic fruit trees, including acerola cherries, cashew nuts, mangos, star anise and lychees. Fields of pineapple, sugarcane, bananas, papayas, taro, native Hawaiian hardwood trees, tropical flowers and beehives accompany you.
Hop off to feed the animals — herds of wild pigs, goats and sheep. Watch for cattle and donkeys too.
All along the way, the conductor explains the flora and fauna, sharing the natural and colorful history of Kilohana and the legends of Kauai.
There will be time for shopping at the beautiful Kilohana Manor House.
Notes:
Kilohana Manor House is closed on Sundays; shopping at Hilo Hattie will be substituted.
