Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Bring a light jacket or sweater. Sulfur fumes are strong in certain areas within Volcanoes National Park. Not advisable for guests with a respiratory condition. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Kilauea is an active volcano and erupts frequently; participate at your own risk.
Note (2025–2026): Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has recently begun a multi-year construction program to repair, improve or remove damaged buildings and infrastructure at the summit of Kilauea. A temporary Visitor Center is open during the construction project; you may encounter delays along the way.
