Your journey begins with a panoramic drive from Greencastle through the outskirts of Derry and on to the Antrim Coast. You'll pause to photograph the extensive ruins of Dunluce Castle, one of Ireland's best medieval castles.
Finn MacCool is Ireland's giant, whose story is rooted in a shroud of superstition and legend. He reputedly built the causeway so he could visit his giant girlfriend in Scotland. Fact or fiction? The new Visitor Center allows you to decide for yourself. Either way, it explains how the causeway's 40,000 basalt stones were formed and covers the area's rich mythology, history, geology, flora and fauna to make your visit to the Causeway more resonant.
Head outside and let your imagination take over as you step across the tightly-packed columns of stone that lead to either the creative turbulence of a bygone volcanic age or into the myths and legends of the past.
Return to the pier in Greencastle afterward.
Notes:
Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. A shorter version of this tour is available in the same port (92304 The Giant's Causeway). Tour is available on select sailings only. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, cobblestones, inclines, gravel, grass, rocks, stones and many steps. Guests using a wheelchair can reach the start of the stones, but the Causeway is not accessible.
