Explore El Morro and San Cristóbal forts set at opposite ends of Old San Juan.
A panoramic drive takes you first to Fort San Felipe del Morro -- the oldest Spanish fort in the New World. Standing guard at the entrance to San Juan, this six-story citadel boasts garitas, or sentry boxes, all around the fort's outer walls. The old cannons are still in place, and the fort boasts magnificent views.
Next, travel through the historic Old Town, filled with Spanish colonial buildings. Walk through centuries of history with visits to two massive and impressive fortresses set at opposite ends of Old San Juan.
Fort San Cristobal -- one of the largest defense bastions ever built in the Americas. Take time to see the chapel, real cannonballs, gunnery positions, and tunnels that offer a glimpse into the past.
After your tour, you'll return to the ship, stopping en route for shopping at the lovely Plaza Colon.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Please note that road repairs are taking place in Old San Juan through the entire month of April 2026 and will result in closures making the visit to Fort San Felipe del Morro unavailable. For this reason, the calls of Koningsdam on April 1, 2026, and Zuiderdam on April 14, 2026, will include extended time at Castillo de San Cristobal (approximately 1.5 hours), a scenic drive through the new city with a 20 minute stop at the Convention Center, and 25 minutes at the beach.
