Curaçao is home to a variety of unique and locally made products. Admire and purchase authentic items while supporting local businesses.
You'll begin with a visit to Limpi — a local initiative that transforms recycled plastic into beautiful handmade products. Here, you'll not only shop but also learn about the inspiring story of the entrepreneurs who turn plastic waste into a sustainable business. Perhaps not surprisingly, Limpi means clean in Papiamento.
Visit the Chobolobo mansion that houses the original liqueur distillery making famous Blue Curaçao. You will see the copper still that dates back to 1896, still in use today to produce world-famous spirits. Your guide will explain how the distillery process works, and you will taste it for yourself. Shop for liqueurs, which make for wonderful multi-colored souvenirs.
At the Aloe Vera Farm, a local guide talks about the plantation, the farm, and the healing effects of the aloe vera. Watch the process of harvesting aloe juice from the plant and learn how the juice is used. Numerous aloe products are sold in the on-site shop.
End with a scenic drive through the city center, passing colorful mansions built in Dutch colonial style. You will also drive through the Scharloo District — the former Jewish Quarter of Willemstad — which boasts the beautifully restored mansions that form a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
As you cross the tall Juliana Bridge, don't miss the perfect view over Curaçao's natural harbor.
Notes:
Minimum age to sample liqueur is 21 years. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
