This enchanting city, originally settled by the Quitu tribe and later integrated into the Inca Empire, was re-founded in 1534 by Spanish Conquistador Sebastian de Benalcazar. Quito’s rich history is beautifully preserved in its colonial center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where art and culture flourished under Spanish rule.

Discover why Quito was the first city to be honored as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Marvel at the stunning San Francisco Church, the opulent La Compañía with its gold-gilded walls, and the vibrant Independence Plaza, flanked by the Presidential Palace and the Cathedral of Quito. The historic center, with its art treasures, exquisite woodcarvings, and blooming balconies, is the heart and soul of Quito.
