It's a journey to Escobilla — a beach renowned for its extraordinary mass arrivals of sea turtles, who come ashore (mostly at night and in the early hours) to lay their eggs. Once the eggs are carefully buried in the sand, they begin an approximately 60-day incubation period. During this time, many natural and manmade dangers can prevent the eggs from hatching or prevent hatchlings from safely reaching the ocean. To help improve their chances of survival, a dedicated group of local conservationists and biologists work tirelessly to protect them. They carefully relocate a percentage of the eggs to secure hatcheries, where the young turtles are given a better chance of survival.
Your visit today is all about introducing you to this passionate team and bringing you into their work so that you can contribute meaningfully to Mexico, to the lifecycle of sea turtles, and to the planet as a whole. You'll learn about these important conservation efforts and, as a truly memorable highlight, you'll have the opportunity to release baby turtles into the ocean, helping them begin their incredible journey into the wild.
En route back to the ship, you'll stop briefly at a family-owned artisanal chocolate business. Discover some of the steps in the traditional chocolate-making process. Taste the chocolate and, if you wish, make a purchase to support this local enterprise that is a partner in keeping Mexico's rich culinary tradition alive.
