Set out with a small group (maximum 26 privileged guests) and travel to Dunkirk — the setting of one of World War II's most decisive moments.
The captivating How Was It Built? series delves into Operation Dynamo — an incredible synthesis of planning and ad hoc decision-making that led to the safe evacuation of more than 338,000 Allied soldiers stranded on the beach at Dunkirk.
With the enemy closing in, there was no "official" method of evacuation available. Operation Dynamo was hastily devised, pushing well beyond what was deemed even remotely reasonable or possible, to pull off an unspeakably daring, courageous and downright foolhardy rescue mission that forever altered the course of history. Visit the Dunkirk 1940 Museum to explore the nuts and bolts of Operation Dynamo to decide for yourself whether the outcome was miraculous, marvelous, or both.
Continue to Malo-les-Bains Beach, where the Allied forces waited for a rescue that they thought would never come, and hear powerful stories of courage and survival.
A guided walk through Dunkirk's rebuilt city center reveals the Town Hall, the UNESCO World Heritage Site Belfry, and the historic Leughenaer Tower, illustrating how the city rose from the ashes after near-total destruction.
Enjoy a brief period of free time before you return to Zeebrugge.
