Embark on an exciting journey to the Gwahumbe Game Reserve, located just an hour and a half away from Durban. With its stunning natural beauty, the Gwahumbe Game Reserve is the perfect destination for adventure seekers, nature enthusiasts, and wildlife lovers alike.
A wilder experience awaits you here -- an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city among the rich wildlife of the reserve.
Gwahumbe Game Reserve is a private reserve located at the meeting point of the Gwahumbe and Umsunduze Rivers. Enjoy the scenic views of this magnificent reserve while spotting the varied wildlife in their natural habitats.
As soon as you arrive, you'll switch to a 4x4 vehicle to embark on a thrilling two-hour game drive.
Despite not being a Big Five reserve, the reserve still boasts a variety of breathtaking animals such as hippopotamus, giraffes, zebras, different species of antelopes, and ostriches. The exquisite riverine environment on the Gwahumbe Riverbanks allows for an up-close experience with an abundance of bird life.
After exploring, head back to the lodge for some refreshments. Once you've had your fill of the adventure, it will be time to head back to Durban's quayside.
Notes:
Participants are not permitted to use cell phones during the game drive or to speak loudly or stand up in the game drive vehicle, as this will disturb the animals. Smoking is not permitted. The roads in the game reserve are gravel. There are also inclines, and certain parts of the game drive can be bumpy. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair, walker or scooter or for those with back or neck conditions. Wear comfortable clothing; bring binoculars. Bring a hat; wear biodegradable sunscreen and sunglasses. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
