The destiny of New France took shape on the Plains of Abraham in 1759, and in the many sieges and battles that took place before and even after this turning point in Québec's history. Québec City's military legacy remains clearly visible in the 21st century and is an integral part of the city's architecture. Today, the Historic District of Old Québec is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Led by an authentically costumed military figure from the 18th century, explore the Walled City starting from the Governor's Garden. This is one of the oldest parks in North America, first landscaped in 1647. Don't miss the Wolfe & Montcalm Monument dedicated to the French and British generals who both died in the same battle.
A circuit walk takes you past the fortifications and the historic gates built over two centuries, stretching more than 2½ miles around Old Québec, and a guided tour of the city focuses on the major battles that took place here in the fight for colonization.
