Discover Manila, the Philippines' capital city and premier gateway to the country.
Start your tour with a visit to historic Rizal Park and the old Walled City of Intramuros, built during the Spanish colonial period.
The first stop on your walking tour is at Fort Santiago, which served as the headquarters of the military might of the Spanish, American and Japanese colonizers until its destruction in 1945.
Next up is the Manila Cathedral -- a magnificent architectural feat with its intricate stone carvings, stained-glass mosaics and rose windows.
Casa Manila, a reconstructed 19th-century mansion, contains a collection of 16th- to 19th-century furniture and furnishings.
You'll walk across the street to San Augustin Church -- the oldest structure in the Philippines -- which dates back to 1571.
The ride back to the pier takes you under the Quiapo Bridge, where a veritable treasure trove of authentic local handicraft products is sold at the market here.
Notes:
There is no stop at the Quiapo handicraft market -- it is a drive through the street under Quiapo Bridge. Casa Manila is closed on Mondays. San Augustin Church may be crowded during wedding celebrations. Photography / Videography is not allowed inside the Casa Manila & San Agustin Museum. Traffic condition within the city center is unpredictable. Tour involves walking over relatively level terrain, possibly some cobblestone, gravel, or a few steps. Wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes. Bring hat/sunscreen for sun protection.
