Travel the Haines Highway to the alpine tundra area of Haines Summit in Yukon, Canada. Along the way, you'll drive through Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve's dramatic scenery and enjoy tales of local history and culture.
The Haines Highway — a National Scenic Byway — has functioned as a Chilkat Native trail, a packhorse route and a military access road. Travel the very same route through Fort Seward to the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, a 48,000-acre wildlife refuge that's home to the world's largest concentration of bald eagles.
Take photos from a scenic viewpoint before you cross the Canadian border to follow the gold stampeders' route used by some of Alaska's early settlers and enjoy views over the expanse of tundra.
You'll pause for a delicious picnic-style lunch before heading back to Haines.
Notes:
This adventure crosses the US/Canadian border; US and Canadian citizens must carry a passport and ship ID. All other nationalities must have a valid passport, visa, and ship ID. Written consent is required for children traveling into Canada without both parents. Waiver must be signed and medical conditions disclosed. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Participants are welcome to stay on the coach throughout the tour. The content of this tour is identical to Easy Haines: Scenic Byway & Summit. Only guests using a wheelchair can book this tour, as it ensures accessible transportation. Due to the specialized nature of some lift-equipped vehicles, priority is given to guests using a wheelchair and one companion only; additional companions may be required to travel on non-accessible transportation and should book the same tour under the title Easy Haines: Scenic Byway & Summit. The tour operator suggests you bring a companion to assist, as guides are not allowed to push wheelchairs.
