Come ride with us in a fully enclosed Search & Rescue Amphibious SHERP. These comfortable and fully enclosed vehicles take you off road into the real Alaska, while keeping you warm and dry, safe from bugs and wildlife.
A shuttle picks you up from the your lodge and takes you down the Nenana River Canyon to Otto Lake where the trail begins. Following a safety briefing, you will embark in the amphibious search & rescue vehicle, traveling up an old mining trail exploring the Otto Lake and Dry Creek drainages below Mount Healy. The tour takes you up a steep trail to a lookout point high above the valley with vista views. You will then travel through an Alaska taiga boreal forest and to Dry Creek river bed to visit the permafrost-palisade cliffs that seem to defy gravity.
The tour then takes you back to Otto Lake where your guide will drive into the lake and demonstrate the amphibious capability of the vehicle. Your local guides have lived many years in Alaska, and will teach you about the history of the area, geology, and share personal experiences living in Alaska. This tour is just outside the border of Denali National Park in an area surrounded on three (3) sides by the National Park. The area is also used by other ATV tours, this tour is interactive focused on education and storytelling and much gentler than ATVs. We experience occasional Wildlife viewing opportunities, but wildlife is wild, so sometimes we see them, and sometimes we don't. As an added bonus, your guides deploy commercial drones (weather dependent) to enhance wildlife viewing/videoing. At the conclusion of the tour, each guest will receive (on their cell phone) a personalized and edited drone video of their tour to share with friends and family.
Special Notes: Limited to 6 guests per vehicle; guests should be physically capable of climbing 4 stair steps to get into and out of the Sherp. Maximum guest size is 325lbs; waist size of 50" or less. This tour uses headsets with microphones so everyone can hear and talk with the tour guide.
