Step back in time and experience Alaska as the original pioneers did on the Black Diamond Covered Wagon. Pulled by two majestic draft horses, this guided tour winds through the Alaskan tundra with stunning views of Denali National Park’s Healy Range, offering a relaxing and immersive journey into the wilderness.
Along the way, your guide shares stories about the history of the local mining area, Alaskan folklore, life in the wilderness, as well as the flora, fauna, geology, and geography of Alaska and the rich local valley. Photo opportunities abound, and the scenic trails provide the perfect backdrop for capturing memories of your adventure.
At our remote pavilion, enjoy a hearty, family-style BBQ meal prepared with fresh, local ingredients. After dining, meet the horses that carried you to this beautiful location, take photos, and then return along the scenic backcountry trails, soaking in even more breathtaking views on the way back.
We provide blankets, but please dress for the weather! We go rain, snow or shine! This tour is perfect for families, friends, or anyone seeking a relaxing yet memorable Alaskan experience, combining history, adventure, and natural beauty into one unforgettable journey.
For the 8:00 departure a hearty breakfast of homemade biscuits and gravy, pancakes, scrambled eggs, variety of breakfast meats, fresh fruit plate, and berry cobbler is severed. Enjoy coffee, tea, juice, or even a mimosa!
Lunch and dinner typically consist of house made fresh sides such as coleslaw, potato salad, fresh corn muffins, and pasta salad. The delicious entrees include vegan chili, roasted chicken, fall off the bone BBQ ribs, and grilled Alaskan salmon followed all followed by berry cobbler for dessert. Choose from a variety of beverages including coffee, tea, hot chocolate, juice or wine.
Special Note(s): Bring a warm jacket, hat, gloves and a camera. Dress in warm layers. Blankets are provided. Wildlife sightings are likely but not guaranteed. Wagon ride & backcountry dining portion is approximately 2½ hours. Although this is a fairly easy tour it is not recommended for guests with back issues or mobility issues as the short walk to get into and out of the wagons is on uneven dirt paths and the tour itself operates on back country trails and roads. If you have dietary restrictions or allergies, please notify the tour operator at least 24 hours in advance so we can accommodate your needs.
