There are some significant World War II points of interest here on the island of Guadalcanal, whose native name is Isatabu.
Begin at the US Memorial on Skyline Drive, where the US Navy annually commemorates those lost in battle here on Guadalcanal.
Stop at the Jacob Vouza Monument, made for a local who played a significant role in the American victory.
At the open-air Vilu War Museum, see an array of both Japanese and American war relics.
On the way back to Honiara, view the remains of the Hirokawa Maru at Mbonege Beach.
Notes:
Due to road conditions, travel may be bumpy. Limited tourism infrastructure is part of the charm here; you are trading breadth of guide experience for authentic interaction. Please bring your spirit of adventure and bear with any language difficulties or operational surprises that may crop up.
