Leaving Reykjavík, a panoramic drive takes you to the volcanic Reykjanes Peninsula, where you will find several dormant volcanoes and extensive lava fields.
You'll drive through the fishing town of Hafnarfjördur on your way to the Viking World Museum — home to the fantastic full-scale replica of the Gokstad Viking longship discovered in Norway in 1882.
At Gunnuhver hot spring area, close to Reykjanes lighthouse, mud pools form where steam from a boiling geothermal reservoir water condenses and mixes, creating acidic surface water and dissolving lava rock into clay.
Before heading back to Reykjavík, your journey includes the towering Reykjanesviti Lighthouse, built in 1908, it is an undeniable local favorite.
Notes:
Tour consists mainly of sightseeing from the transportation. Stops (if any) are brief, and participants can remain in the vehicle. Participants must be able to climb a few steps unassisted to board the transportation. Terrain includes inclines, rough surfaces, grass/mud/gravel paths, and uneven wooden steps. Suitable for guests with mobility limitations with a companion to assist. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Wear sturdy, non-skid walking shoes. Parents traveling with children under 3 years must rent a child's car seat from the tour operator; please see the Shore Excursions team on board. You cannot use your child's car seat from home in Iceland.
