A comfortable panoramic drive by motorcoach takes you north of Aarhus to Rosenholm Castle — one of Denmark's largest and most beautiful Renaissance castles. The 12-acre park surrounding it was laid out in the 1700s, complete with lime-tree avenues, bowers, and beech hedges. The castle is fully furnished with hundreds of items of furniture, paintings and tapestries, which provide the visitor with a fascinating view of a noble family's life through the centuries. Enjoy an inside visit to this stunning attraction.
Gammel Estrup Manor is another Renaissance estate, the oldest parts of which originated around 1490. This was also a family-owned estate, belonging to the wealthy Skeel family for more than 600 years until it was finally sold in 1926.
Today, the manor houses the Danish Manor House Museum, and the stables house the Danish Agricultural Museum. The estate is large and offers many things to see and do. Feel free to join a guided exploration of the magnificent halls and elegant chambers of the castle or stay outside and explore the vast Baroque gardens. Outside, you can trace the evolution of agriculture, from the first plows in ancient times until today's modern industrial agriculture.
Enjoy refreshments served in the beautiful garden or inside the Orangerie. You will have coffee and delicious homemade cake baked from handwritten recipes written by Otilie — a housemaid who worked for the Skeel family in the early 1900s.
Notes:
Rosenholm Castle and Gammel Estrup have no elevators. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, gravel, grass, and steps. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair.
