Calling all railroad buffs and those interested in Hawaii's agriculture.
Board a narrow-gauge train for a 40-minute ride through the 105-acre Agriculture & Animal Plantation. Ride in the King Kalakaua-style pure mahogany-wood passenger railcars. From the train, you will have splendid views of orchards that grow more exotic fruit trees, including acerola cherries, cashew nuts, mangos, star anise and lychees. Fields of pineapple, sugarcane, bananas, papayas, taro, native Hawaiian hardwood trees, tropical flowers and beehives accompany you.
Hop off to feed the animals — herds of wild pigs, goats and sheep. Watch for cattle and donkeys too.
All along the way, the conductor explains the flora and fauna, sharing the natural and colorful history of Kilohana and the legends of Kauai.
There will be time for shopping at the beautiful Kilohana Manor House.
Notes:
Kilohana Manor House is closed on Sundays; shopping at Hilo Hattie will be substituted. The content of this tour is identical to Kauai Plantation Railway Train Ride & Manor House Visit. Only non-ambulatory guests using a wheelchair that requires specific accommodations, such as a lift/ramp and a wheelchair anchor on the transportation, can book this tour, as it ensures accessible transportation (guests using a collapsible wheelchair and able to board the coach via the steps must book Kauai Plantation Railway Train Ride & Manor House Visit. Due to the specialized nature of some lift-equipped vehicles, priority is given to guests using a wheelchair and one companion only; additional companions may be required to travel on non-accessible transportation and should book the same tour under the title Kauai Plantation Railway Train Ride & Manor House Visit. The tour operator suggests bringing a companion to assist if needed, as guides are not allowed to push wheelchairs. Bookings not marked with an accessibility requirement will be removed from the tour's inventory. Both the Manor House and Rum House are wheelchair accessible; however, due to the design of the experience, guests are not able to remain in an electric wheelchair during the train portion of the tour. Access to the plantation grounds is only available via the railway, which limits our ability to accommodate electric wheelchairs for that segment of the visit. Please complete the Special Services form at https://book.hollandamerica.com/specialServices/login.action; this will ensure that suitable transportation is in place for your tour.
