Calling all railroad buffs and those interested in Hawaii's agriculture.
Board a narrow-gauge train for a 40-minute ride through the 105-acre Agriculture & Animal Plantation. Ride in the King Kalakaua-style pure mahogany-wood passenger railcars. From the train, you will have splendid views of orchards that grow more exotic fruit trees, including acerola cherries, cashew nuts, mangos, star anise and lychees. Fields of pineapple, sugarcane, bananas, papayas, taro, native Hawaiian hardwood trees, tropical flowers and beehives accompany you.
Hop off to feed the animals — herds of wild pigs, goats and sheep. Watch for cattle and donkeys too.
All along the way, the conductor explains the flora and fauna, sharing the natural and colorful history of Kilohana and the legends of Kauai.
There will be time for shopping at the beautiful Kilohana Manor House.
Notes:
Kilohana Manor House is closed on Sundays; shopping at Hilo Hattie will be substituted. This tour is for those accompanying a guest using a wheelchair booked on Kauai Plantation Railway Train Ride & Manor House Visit (Wheelchair Accessible). It is also suitable for those wishing to book an accessible tour but NOT requiring specific accommodations, such as a vehicle lift/ramp and wheelchair anchor on the transportation. Folding wheelchairs and mobility devices can be accommodated for those able to climb steps to (dis)embark the coach. Guests using a wheelchair requiring a designated accessible place on lift-equipped transportation must select the version of this tour Kauai Plantation Railway Train Ride & Manor House Visit (Wheelchair Accessible). Both the Manor House and Rum House are wheelchair accessible; however, due to the design of the experience, guests are not able to remain in an electric wheelchair during the train portion of the tour. Access to the plantation grounds is only available via the railway, which limits our ability to accommodate electric wheelchairs for that segment of the visit.
