Your journey begins with a scenic drive along Sydney Harbor, passing through the charming communities of Westmount and Edwardsville before continuing along the picturesque far shore. You will then travel to the historic town of North Sydney, where a brief photo stop allows you to take in the sweeping views of the harbor.
From there, the tour continues to the coal-mining community of Sydney Mines, home to the renowned Cape Breton Fossil Centre. This impressive facility features Canada’s largest collection of Carboniferous plant fossils, with more than 800 specimens on display. During your visit, you will learn about the region’s ancient natural history and discover how the “Three Sydneys” helped shape the development of Cape Breton. Adjacent to the Fossil Centre, the Sydney Mines Heritage Museum offers a deeper look into the community’s past through artifacts donated by local residents, including coal miners’ tools and memorabilia celebrating famed local athlete Johnny Miles. Together, these exhibits bring the area’s heritage to life in a meaningful and personal way.
With stunning scenery, rich cultural history, and extraordinary natural discoveries, this tour provides a captivating look at Cape Breton’s past and present.
