Discover the European charm and character of the first French city in North America as you view the city sights, including some UNESCO World Heritage Sites seen from a panoramic drive, and learn the fascinating history of Québec's 400-year legacy. Enjoy a guided stop at Place-Royale -- the site of Champlain's first settlement. This beautifully-restored market square is typical of the 17th- and 18th-century stone architecture that comprises the heart of Québec's Lower Town.
Passing through the St Louis Gate, explore National Battlefields Park -- also known as the Plains of Abraham. The park was the historic battle site where the French surrendered to the British in 1759. It is now a beautiful 250-acre park with hills, gardens, monuments, and artillery artifacts. Take a photo at Cap Diamant. Pass the trendy Grande-Allée -- the Champs-Elysées of Québec -- lined with quaint shops, sidewalk cafés, and boutiques.
As you return to the ship, watch for the Hotel du Parliament -- an imposing Second Empire-style building.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. This tour uses local city buses chartered exclusively for Holland America Line guests on this shore excursion; they are simple coaches with no frills.
