Visit the lower levels of Mt Taranaki, be welcomed with a karakia (prayer), as well as an introduction to the flora of the mountain, zonation and pest eradication. Continue your tour to the upper North Egmont visitors centre carpark. Here, there are expansive views up to the mountain, as well as down to the plains, New Plymouth and the sea. This is an excellent location for photographs. Enjoy discussion of the geology and cultural history of the maunga. Return to your coach for a small drive to your next location. Enjoy a short, gentle walk through the native bush at Lake Mangamahoe, followed by a gentle climb to a lookout for another view of the mountain and across the lake.
At this point, you can self-select the level of walk you would like to undertake. Enthusiastic walkers can take a slightly more strenuous walk to the opposite end of the lake, approximately an hour on a bush track on uneven, hilly terrain. Alternatively, the coach will be driving to the opposite end of the lake. Here, choose a shorter climb to a lookout, which provides a further opportunity for photographs of Mt Taranaki and Lake Mangamahoe, or remain in the park-like setting to enjoy the lakeside experience. Our guides will accompany you for the entire duration!
